Ike Terms

So, while I was at a friends hanging out and sitting around watching the kids play outside around day 7 of the big "power outage" that Ike was, I came up with a list of "Ike terms". Words that suddenly were part of everyone's vocabulary. Words that were being said on a daily basis. Words that we won't soon forget. So, here is what I (we) came up with. 1. PODs- Point of Distribution. I did not visit one. But, my friend Brandi did. 2. M.R.E.s- Meals Ready to Eat. I really would like to see one in person and try one. 3. Look & Leave- My cousin was so glad to be able to go and see her house in Seabrook. 4. Generator- Man, those things are loud. I can't get that sound out of my head. 5. Cone of Uncertainty- That was one big cone. 6. Storm Surge- Phew, that sucker was scary. 7. Hunker Down- Don't know if I will do that again. 8. Safe Room/Safe Spot- Ours was in the master bedroom closet. 9. F.E.M.A. 10. Michael Chertoff- FEMA director. 11. Judge Ed Emm...

And Now A Matthew Moment

The other day Matthew said, "Mom, look at that dragon fly!" So, I turned to look. Then I said, "That is not a dragon fly. It is a mosquito!!" Lol ! After, hurricane IKE the mosquitoes are huge and a plenty. Ugh!

Hurricane IKE: Our Aftermath.

Hello everyone! I hope this finds you all doing well. I hope you all have power and are getting your lives back to "normal". If you are like me I am still scratching me head and trying to figure it all out. Like where did Sept. go? We lost two weeks. Huh? Just trying to figure out what day of the week or the actual date is hard. Still. Phew. Also, two days after I got power I was still in survival mode. I took my cooler to the store. Habit? Already? I had power and forgot. Took my cooler to H.E.B. to fill up with ice. Which yes, I bought that, too. Even though our fridge was up and running. Ha. Speaking of power. We got our power back on day 12, which was Wed. I was at Chuy's for dinner when the calls came in telling me. Yay ! I cried. Seriously. I was so relived. Yes! Being without power was tough after about day 9. The heat cranked up. The week after IKE when the weather was nice was OK and I did fine. But add in some heat and forget it. I am happy to report that ever...

Hurricane Ike

We are home and waiting on Ike to hit. We have our "safe spot" ready. We will be sleeping in my bedroom closet tonight. The boys are kinda confused about it all still. We are ready. We are just hanging out for now. Watching the news. Looking out the windows and watching the wind pick up from time to time. We had 3 trees cut down today. And some major limbs cut also. Most of our family, friends, and neighbors are all in the same boat. We have all decided to just hunker down. My prays are with you all. I pray that we will all be safe. I will keep everyone posted on the outcome of this storm. **Galveston Island is already flooding. The storm surge is like no other they are reporting. The storm is not here yet and we have had no rain but the water is already coming up and over the Galveston Seawall. Wow!! We can only sit and wait to see just how much worse it will be.

What a great quote!

I got this most excellent quote sent to me this week. It is now one of my faves. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.-Dr. Seuss

This picture makes me smile.

Here is a pic of our friend, Lexi Coker! She celebrated her 3rd birthday on Saturday. Happy Birthday, Lex. We love ya!
