And Now A Matthew Moment

Today it was rainy and cold. So we came to where its always sunny... Sunrise Mall in Brownsville. Matt has loved our indoor day. He took a pic with the Easter Bunny. Big brother, Alex did not want to. I guess he is getting to old for that. Sniff. Then Matt rode the double decker carousel, followed by some time at the play area. Last but not least he is at this very second enjoying two scoops of cotton candy flavored Blue Bell ice cream w/ Skittles. Phew! What a day! He is one happy road tripper.

My roots.

We're still in Brownsville. Where it all started. My story. My life. This place is my roots. Every time I come back it is harder to leave. There are so many memories here. So many places I know. The picture you see is the house my parents brought me home to. My first home. The drive way looks so small. When I played on it I remember it feeling miles long. I performed many shows on that porch. And every time I climbed the trellis, I always got into trouble. I have family here. Aunts, uncles, cousins. Seeing them always fills me up with love. Picking up where we last left off. Being surrounded by my history recharges me until my next visit. Home.

Hope the time change hasn't thrown you for a loop. Take a minute to think about your roots today.

More from the 'camino' later.

Outlet Malls make me happy.

Hola from the road. Today we had lunch in Harlingen with one of Kevin's friends and ex co-workers, Roxella. Then after lunch we stumbled upon an outlet mall. Score. Love one stop shopping for the whole fam and great bargains all in one day! So fun! Boys got new shoes, sandals, and fun Disney beach towels. KP got some cute new cargo shorts and pants. I got a super cute sun dress and cardigan. Now a little rest and some napage and then a BBQ at my cousin's later. Fun day.

Tips From The Road

So we are on a road trip, and naturally I brought a stack'o magazines with me. Thanks for driving KP, thus giving me all this magazine time. I brought the latest InStyle that I just got yesterday. It is the April issue all thick and juicy with the latest Spring fashions. Gwen Stefani is on the cover. Girls, its a gots to get issue for sure. Oh, yeah. So. It is also, loaded down with many perfume samples. Here comes the tip. Do not try on all the samples at once! Especially while sitting in an enclosed area with AC vents very close to you. I not only smell flowery, powdery, musky, sweet, etc. all at the same time mind you, but now I have a giant headache AND the whole van smells! Sigh. No bueno.

From the road.

If you have Spring Break off or not I hope you are at least out and about and enjoying this AB FAB weather!!

Stay tuned for more from the road.

And Now A Matthew Moment

I just wanted to share a few photos of lil' Matt.

Here he is "waiting" for me at Alex's school the other day. I am on the PTO Board (Parent Teacher Organization) and my job for this year has been Photographer. I have been helping to take pictures of any events the school has to go in the yearbook. Matt usually likes going up to the school because he can see, Alex and because he likes socializing with the other students and the teachers. This day he was being so silly though! I know Matt, being silly. No way. Smirk. So, just before this pic was taken he said, "I will be waiting right over there." "OK," I said. Later, I turned around and this is what I saw. Glad, I had the camera ready. (:

Lately, Matt has been making cards for us. I usually know about it because I have to help get any supplies he may need. The day I found this one he had not asked for my help at all. I remember it was a Monday because I was washing clothes and cleaning up from the weekend. I walked into my bathroom with some clothes to put away and he had left this card by my sink. Yes. He made me a card and surprised me with it!! So sweet. He drew a picture of me, Kevin, and him. It is in the right hand corner. (: And he drew an eye for an I and then wrote love Mom. He was so excited when I found it. I heart him. My baby! I can't believe he is four and writing and drawing and making me things. Seems like he was just in diapers yesterday. Sniff. Tear. Come to think of it being out of diapers is a good thing! Enjoy the pics.

A New Table

The stand below was made by Granddad. It is the only thing that I have from him. I only saw him a handful of times in my life. My dad's dad, lived in Mexico. He made this for me. I love it! It still has pencil marks on the inside from when he was making it. (: Anyway, it has been sitting between these two chairs in our room for a while now and has been in several different places in our house. It is kinda small and not did not go real well, there, but he made it and I like seeing it. Then, I saw a picture on one of my favorite blogs. A round table with a table cover/rounder. I thought it would look great in our room. So, I went to Lowe's and purchased a round table top for under $20. Already cut and ready. I stuck it on top of my stand. Then with some fabric I got at Goodwill. Yes, that is what I had said. I got 5 yards of red fabric at GW for $3.99! Thanks for finding it for me Brandi! On top of that I used what fabric was left from recovering my dining room chairs (see below). Click here to see the before pic of the chair. The fabric was a bday gift from my parents. Yes, you know your are a grown up when, you ask for expensive decorator fabric for you birthday instead of something fun like an iPod or clothes. Thanks, Mom and Dad. My mom sewed the skirt for me. Thanks, mom. Remember I cannot sew, but I can hot glue like nobody's business. (; I think it came out great! I have a new table that when you lift the round skirt has a table under with a drawer and cabinet for storage. Yeah! Thanks, Grandpa for my little stand that could!

An Open Letter to Facebook

Dear Facebook,

Yes, I know I said I was taking a break. I tried to quit you. Really, I did.  You and me we have a love hate thing. I love you but, I hate how much time you suck away from my life. I love that I can connect with so many people but, I hate how the people that live in my house need me to connect with them, too. I love that friends old and new chat with me daily, I hate that I can't see them or hear them in person. So, I took a break in Jan. and most of Feb. but, here we are again. See, its times like these when my little sister is so busy working in NYC on her BROADWAY debut (very PROUD of you J.!!!) and I have not talked to her in weeks (here come the tears) that I need you. I need you to keep us connected. I can see her status updates and know that she is alive, well, and just busy. Too busy to make a quick call or text me.  Quitting you also meant that I TOTALLY missed it when Misty announced that she was moving to Denver! What, when, and why I am not sure yet. I am still reading Older Posts. Dang, see what happens when I tried to quit you. I miss stuff. The what's going on stuff that people put out there that I just may want to or need to know. You know? So, FB what I have decided is that I am going to see other people "real" ones (i.e. my hubby, boys, dog, etc.) most of my time. You know, on week days and nights. And spend time with you and my "virtual" peeps early mornings when I can't sleep, on weekends, and during football season when my hubby and boys are up in the man cave yelling at the TV and could care less about what I am doing or if I am even in the house. Oh, and mobile-y when KP is driving and I am sitting shot gun and the boys are in the backseat watching a DVD. He, he. You ok with that FB? I hope so. And so with that I would like to dedicate this song to you Facebook. A great song by Kelly Clarkson made even better by the cast of Glee (Sorry Kelly, but girl you know its true)! Its called (and as much as I  hate to admit) My Life Would Suck Without You!! The lyrics say it all, FB.

Guess this means you're sorry
You're standing at my door
Guess this means you take back
All you said before
Like how much you wanted
Anyone but me
Said you'd never come back
But here you are again

'Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me
And honestly,
My life (my life) would suck (would suck) without you

Maybe I was stupid for telling you goodbye
Maybe I was wrong for tryin' to pick a fight
I know that I've got issues
But you're pretty messed up too
Either way, I found out I'm nothing without you

'Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me
And honestly,
My life (my life) would suck (would suck) without you

Being with you
Is so dysfunctional
I really shouldn't miss you
But I can’t let you go
Oh yeah

'Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me
And honestly,
My life (my life) would suck (would suck) without you

Yours truly and since we're being honest until the next best thing comes along (remember Myspace).

P.S.  I cannot lie. I live for your comments and messages. Knowing someone is listening, feeling like me, and or cares is special. I like having a place to put funny status updates even if talking about myself in the third person still creeps me out. Knowing I made someone laugh makes me smile. Is that so bad? But, shhh all that's our secret! :P

That Girl

You know that girl, the one that in high school you looked at and admired from afar. The one you envied. The one you wanted to be like. The one that had everything. She had the right clothes, the good hair, cute boyfriend, designer purses, nice car. She was thin. Perfect. In your eyes any way. "That girl". There was one in college, too. The one with good grades, cute boyfriend, tons of friends. And even now, I see "that girl" with the perfect hair, great figure, cute kids that walked out of a Gap ad, nice car, huge house in the perfect neighborhood on the best street. Do you ever wonder what happened to that girl? I don't know why but, I ran into "that girl" from my college years last month. The one that was so perfect. So, I thought. I saw her and I almost did not recognize her. She was about 20 pounds heavier. She had her hair pulled up in a pony tail. She barely had any makeup on. She had on jeans and a T-shirt. And her two kids were by her side fighting for her attention. She looked so different. Not at all like "that girl" I remembered. She looked... like me. A girl who had gained weight, didn't have time to do her hair maybe because she was rushing to get out the door with her kids in tow. She only had time to put on jeans and a shirt because it was all that was clean or maybe it was the only thing that fit. It made me feel as horrible as it sounds happpy. Happy to know that, that girl is normal. Made me feel more normal. It happens to us all. Life. Even to that girl. Just today I saw "that girl" from high school. She was the head cheerleader at another high school than the one that I went to. She went to my church growing up. She was skinny, athletic, gorgeous. Everyone loved her!! She was in my eyes perfect! Well, today I saw her. About 20 pounds heavier. Hair a mess. Wearing glasses. No makeup. T-shirt and wrinkled jeans. Not that girl I remembered. And she was standing in line in front of me at Weight Watchers. Again, I almost did not recognize her. Wow! Like the girl I told you about before and now the one I saw today, I could not stop staring. They are so different now. So different from the girls that I had given so much time and energy envying before. All this when here lately I have been looking (not liking) at myself in the mirror. Looking at this girl (me) now and thinking of the girl I used to be. Wanting to look and feel like the girl I was. Thinking of how I want to also be like that girl. The one with everything. But, seeing them again. Now we are more the same than different. Weird. How things change. How people change. Did God reveal these girls from my past to me this last month for a reason? I don't know. Seeing them has definitely made me think about things. Like I need to be happy just being me. The way I am. The way God made me. I do have everything that girl has and maybe more. I have a husband that adores me, a family that loves me, caring loyal friends, a roof over my head, food to eat (too much), a warm bed, two healthy, smart, wonderfully silly boys, a car to get me where I need to go. I have all I could ask for. Hey, maybe I am that girl. A lucky girl. Blessed. I just didn't see it before. Or maybe I forgot. Thank you God for those little glimpses and big reminders.
